The restaurant Haus der Universität can truly be considered a hidden gem. It is located in a stately old building right next to one of Bern's green oases—the Kocherpark. The menu is intentionally limited, the food is delicious, and the service is warm and friendly.

Visit to Restaurant Haus der Universität in Bern
From the outside, the building of the restaurant gives little indication that you will eat so well inside. We were warmly welcomed. For my meal, I chose the business lunch. The chilled melon and apricot soup was served quickly. It was wonderfully refreshing, especially with the mint leaf in the soup. Matching the summery temperatures, the main course was Vitello Tonnato, served with French fries. The veal was perfectly pink, and the tuna sauce was light and delicious. Along with the veal came a small bowl of fresh French fries. The Vitello Tonnato was excellent in taste.
To finish the business lunch, a berry sorbet with fresh berries was served. At our request, the hostess added a shot of digestif (Cognac?) to the glass.
We felt very comfortable at Haus der Universität, thanks to the beautiful building, the green view of Kocherpark, and the warm service. The prices were reasonable—the value for money was excellent.
I believe very few restaurant-goers in Bern know about Haus der Universität. I highly recommend this hidden gem.
