Creperie Le Carrousel Interior

I've eaten at many restaurants in Bern, but never Le Carrousel before. From the outside, and especially when you walk inside, it feels like you're in France. The crêperie is truly authentic, with a pretty and cozy interior. The "Carrousel" theme is emphasized by a real carousel horse inside!

Most of the customers seem to be from the Länggass neighborhood. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed.

We were served by a charming woman from French-speaking Switzerland. We started with French beer in the Belgian style. We had a simple French red wine with our meal, which was tasty.

Before the main course, we had a salad. It had different kinds of lettuce and was fresh. The salad dressing was good, but there wasn't much of it. Maybe the kitchen could have used a little more.

For our main course, we chose savory crêpes, called "Galettes" in France. These are made with buckwheat flour. There's a big selection of galettes. I chose a simple galette with ham, cheese, and egg, which was very delicious. The only thing is, one of my friends said her galette wasn't very hot.

Since we went to Crêperie le Carrousel for lunch, we were able to take advantage of the lunch special, which includes a sweet crêpe for an extra CHF 3. However, the sweet crêpe choices on the lunch special are very simple.

After eating, we left the restaurant. But we had to get another beer on their patio! The server at the bar helped us make a good pick for the beer.

Atmosphere

As mentioned above, the atmosphere is very French. This is enhanced by the wood interior and decorations in the French style. The ambiance is very cozy. The customers are likely mainly from the Länggass neighborhood where the restaurant is located – so it has a city feel.

Service

The service at the table was very friendly and even joked around with us. The server was happy to give information about the food and beer. Also, she told us about the lunch special. The only thing to note is that the service was a little slow, pretty relaxed. But this is the case in France too.

Selection at Crêperie Le Carrousel in Bern

"Le Carrousel" in Bern has a great selection of food and drinks. Since the menu focuses on galettes and crêpes, the large selection doesn't negatively impact the quality. There is a large selection of Galettes and crêpes, from each with its own ingredients . Examples in the cheese are Gruyère, Belper Knolle, goat cheese and more. Guests can also choose from a wide range of drinks, such as syrups, cider, and beer. However, there are only two white and two red wines to choose from, which is rather limited. But maybe the French hardly drink wine with crêpes.

Quality

The salad was fresh with a tasty dressing. The quality was perfect, but the salad could have used a little more dressing. The galettes were well-prepared, and the ingredients like ham, cheese, and egg were good. Some galettes were baked a little too dark, and my friend said hers wasn't very hot.

The crêpe with butter and sugar, which I had for CHF 3 as part of the lunch special, was also very delicious – and a normal size.

Although there are only two red wines on the menu, our wine from Languedoc (France) was perfect. This wine, the Saint-Chinian, was strong. The Carrousel specializes in Breton beers. The Duchesse Anne is a strong beer (7.5% alcohol), brewed like a Belgian beer, with a strong taste. For this reason, beer connoisseurs will enjoy this beer.

Price

For a little over CHF 30, you get a salad, galette, mineral water, and a coffee. The prices for cider and wine are also very reasonable. Even if you eat and drink more, you won't be negatively surprised by the prices. That's why Crêperie Le Carrousel in Bern is a great value!
