Atmosphere: Unassuming Exterior, Spacious Interior
Settebello Bern may look unassuming from the outside, but as you approach, a large, inviting terrace reveals itself. It is shaded by chestnut trees and awnings – perfect for enjoying the weather on warm days.
The entrance area leads directly past an imposing pizza wood-fired oven, which not only provides warmth but also creates an authentic atmosphere. The open fire in the center of the room draws the eye and promises culinary delights.
Inside, the restaurant is furnished in classic pizzeria style and offers plenty of seating.
The Kitchen: Authentic Italian Classics
Appetizer: Generous Bruschetta
For an appetizer, I chose the bruschetta, which turned out to be a generous portion: toasted pizza bread instead of regular bread, topped with fresh tomatoes, onion pieces and garlic, refined with rocket salad, grana shavings and fine strips of balsamic – a visually appealing and taste-wise excellent choice.
Main Course: Pizza Napoletana from the Wood-Fired Oven
With the Pizza Napoletana I ordered, we could watch the pizzaiolo at work as he shaped the dough and skillfully slid the pizza into the wood-fired oven. You could even see the dough rising in the oven. It didn’t take long before the pizza arrived at our table perfectly baked.
The dough impressed with a nicely risen, crispy edge and a thin base – exactly as you would expect from a true Neapolitan pizza. The topping was spot on, and every bite was a delight.
Dessert: Affogato and Homemade Tiramisu
After the pizza, I ordered an affogato – vanilla ice cream with espresso. The strong coffee aroma combined with the vanilla ice cream is a perfect combination. Although the vanilla ice cream had some ice crystals, it hardly detracted from the overall impression.
The house offered us a small portion of tiramisu. It was prepared very authentically: it didn’t come from a set mold but was served directly with individual biscuits and creamy mascarpone cream. An absolute treat and definitely one of the best tiramisus served in Bern.
Service
The service at Settebello is fast, friendly and attentive. The drinks ordered at the start were served quickly, and the staff took time to explain the dishes.
