Our Visit Experience at Restaurant Waldeck in Ostermundigen
From the outside, the Waldeck appears unassuming; the facade is gray with numerous narrow windows. Inside, the ceiling is paneled with wood, as are the tables and chairs made of wood. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained.
We were received very kindly. The menu of Restaurant Waldeck mainly contains classic dishes such as various steaks or Wiener Schnitzel. There are also dishes that used to be offered in many restaurants but are now hardly found, especially in the city. Examples include cream schnitzel, "Bäretatze" (hack steak), or Riz Casimir (chicken in curry sauce with rice).
I opted for a beef rump steak with pepper sauce and French fries. A lamb's lettuce salad with egg was included. First, the lamb's lettuce salad was served. This contained - as almost expected - a lot of sauce. Less would have been more here. The beef rump steak was really very large and beautifully roasted pink. The pepper sauce to it was tasty, and the French fries were fresh. The main course was rather a bit too salty. Overall, however, the food was delicious.
The service was always attentive and very friendly.
The Waldeck in Ostermundigen is really worth a visit. In its way, it is a traditional Swiss restaurant and therefore seems a bit "old-fashioned". However, it offers real Swiss cuisine and good service.
