Our Visit Experience at Globus Bern Restaurant
A Hidden Gem on the Top Floor of Globus Bern
Globus Bern is a traditional department store that attracts an elegant, well-off clientele. When you enter the ground floor, the cosmetics stands immediately catch your eye. While the basement has a well-stocked food department, the upper floors feature fine textiles, decorative items, household goods and other lifestyle products.
It never would have occurred to me that there's a restaurant on the third floor of Globus Bern. My dining companion told me about the Rooftop Brasserie at Globus Bern. So we decided to visit this hidden restaurant. The entrance area is elegant and rather dark. When it's warm, the rooftop terrace – basically an inner courtyard – is perfect for relaxing.
During our visit it was sunny and warm, so we had a table reserved in the courtyard. Luckily, it was right under a sun umbrella. The furniture consists of practical garden furniture. The tables are set with paper napkins.
Classic Brasserie Dishes at Globus Bern
The menu at the Rooftop Brasserie is compact. It includes classics like Caesar's Salad, Club Sandwich, Beef Tartare and Wiener Schnitzel. The selection reminds me of menus from bars in upscale hotels. I chose a salad and beef cubes Stroganoff with rösti.
The salad consisted of frisée lettuce, carrots, pumpkin and sunflower seeds with a pomegranate juice vinaigrette. A simple but fresh salad with a mild, refreshing dressing. The Rooftop Brasserie at Globus Bern also served delicious dark bread.
The beef cubes Stroganoff impressed visually with its generous sauce. The beef cubes were nicely cooked to medium-rare. The sauce contained peppers, mushrooms, pickled gherkins and a clearly noticeable pinch of paprika. The authentic Stroganoff taste came through well. It came with delicious rösti. A treat for all sauce lovers.
To finish, we had coffee, which came with truffles.
The friendly staff served us competently and attentively.
The clientele at Globus Bern Restaurant was mostly somewhat older and, like the Globus customers, rather well-off. Guests with dogs are also welcome. Since the sun was shining brightly, the spots under sun umbrellas were popular.
