Atmosphere: By the Aare near the Zoo
Restaurant Dählhölzli is located right on the Aare, just by the entrance to Tierpark Bern. We visited on a beautiful sunny day when the Aare showed its lovely blue-green colour. Add a terrace under sun umbrellas and chestnut trees – summer doesn’t get much better.
The restaurant was freshly renovated in 2025 and is run by Kappeler Gastro (Hüttenzauber). In addition to the served à la carte area and a terrace, there is also a self-service area and a kiosk – perfect after a stroll through the zoo.
The Kitchen: Regional and Seasonal
Starter: Chilled Cucumber Soup
I went for the chilled cucumber soup with sour cream ice and dill oil. The soup was very refreshing. I personally couldn’t warm to the sour cream ice – it’s basically crème fraîche ice cream and not for everyone.
Main Course: Roast Beef Plate
The roast beef plate with tartare sauce and fries came exactly as it should: nicely pink roast beef with fresh fries. The quality was spot on.
Service
There was a mix-up with our order. The service team then made a real effort to sort it out – fair to acknowledge, even if the mistake could have been avoided.
