Our Dining Experience at ChäsChäuer Bern
The restaurant is very close to the Zytglogge and clearly signposted. Those who descend the stairs into the cellar will find wooden tables and cheese and wine racks as a backdrop. ChäsChäuer features a long communal table and thus has relatively few seats. So secure your spot in advance – a reservation is recommended!
The service was very friendly throughout our stay and happy to have a quick chat.
ChäsChäuer is mainly open at lunchtime and primarily offers a selection of different fondues. The speciality is the gin fondue – for which our group unfortunately didn’t have enough adventurous spirit. Let yourself be tempted and try this unique gin fondue!
Since the menu really only contains cheese dishes, we started directly with the fondue. A small platter with dried meat or similar would have been nice to have beforehand. We chose the “Chäsbueb mix” and the classic Moitié-Moitié fondue, with aromatic Gruyère and fine Fribourg Vacherin. Perfect for cheese connoisseurs!
The Moitié-Moitié fondue impressed with its creamy texture. The house blend was a bit more liquid but developed its full, spicy aroma over time.
The wine selection is also manageable but still offers a choice of wines from Switzerland, France, Italy, and Spain.
For dessert, guests can choose from ice cream and other treats. Try the airy meringues with Gruyère Double Crème – a wonderful sweet ending!
