Waldheim Bern is an upscale neighborhood restaurant in the Länggasse. Decorated in the style of an elegant bistro, Waldheim serves refined Swiss and French cuisine. Alongside classics like beef steak tartare or Cordon Bleu, the restaurant offers creative and vegetarian dishes.
Our Experience at Waldheim Bern
Even from the outside, the pale yellow painted building with majestic chestnut trees gives an elegant impression. Guests enter the restaurant through a pretty wooden door with a window. Inside, wood dominates – starting with the paneled walls. The tables and chairs are also wooden, the latter covered in white.
Hostess Regula Minder cares about flower arrangements, so truly charming bouquets stand in vases on the tables. We were warmly welcomed upon entering. Throughout our visit, we were served very warmly, charmingly, and attentively.
Small Menu and Fresh Cuisine
The menu at Waldheim Bern is indeed very concise. At lunch, besides a changing daily menu, there’s a selection of classic dishes like beef steak tartare. The evening menu similarly features classics like Cordon Bleu or veal liver with rösti. Additionally, in the evening there’s a “Menu du Chef” – a separate card with creative dishes.
The Cordon Bleu was accompanied by Berner fries and a vegetable bouquet. The Cordon Bleu wasn’t greasy at all – not deep-fried. When cut, the flavorful cheese flowed out like a lava stream. The fries were served in a metal basket. They were well-seasoned, and the portion size was sufficient. The vegetables included carrots, peas, and yellow turnips. The kitchen had prepared the vegetables very well, cooked to perfection.
