Atmosphere: Swiss Charm by the Käfigturm
Right on lively Bärenplatz, between the Käfigturm and the Bundeshaus, sits Restaurant Röschtigrabe. From the outside it looks inviting, with a terrace that’s well-patronized in good weather.
Inside, a polished winter garden awaits with padded chairs and benches. Swiss cooking utensils hang on the walls – a deliberate nod to the traditional cuisine. The atmosphere is quiet and cozy, even though it wasn’t too busy on our visit.
The tables are neatly set and invite you to linger. The atmosphere is just right for a classic Swiss lunch or dinner.
The Kitchen: Traditional Swiss Dishes
Starter: Vegetable Soup
The vegetable soup was announced as a starter – unfortunately it was a disappointment. The broth was rather thin and salty, with little recognizable vegetable flavor. More of a bouillon with added seasoning than a real vegetable soup.
Side Salad with French Dressing
The salad was notably better: mixed greens with different leaves and a creamy French dressing. Bread is available to grab yourself – several varieties, the darker and lighter bread were both nicely fresh with a crispy crust.
Main Course: Cordon Bleu with Fries
The Cordon Bleu was the main course – and unfortunately the weakest part. It presented very dark and somewhat thin, possibly shrunk from over-frying. When cut open, the expected cheese flow was lacking; even in the thicker part, only a little cheese oozed out. The roast aromas were dominant, with ham and cheese lost in the background. A generous portion of fries on the side was correctly fried and seasoned.
Service
The service was a highlight: alert, lively, and attentive. The food arrived quickly and hot – though my dining companions felt it wasn’t that hot. Overall, a friendly and professional performance.
