Visit to Restaurant zum Zähringer Bern
The Zähringer – as the people of Bern call Restaurant zum Zähringer – is located in a truly beautiful historic building. Inside, Zähringer offers a lovely interior. On our most recent visit, we ate in the front section of the restaurant. On a previous visit with a larger group, we were hosted in a beautiful separate room.
The staff gave us a friendly welcome and accompanied us throughout our visit with a good dose of humor. The menu is deliberately concise, in part to enable high-quality cuisine. The focus is therefore on a multi-course menu that changes regularly. Zähringer also offers a few classic dishes to choose from. I selected the Wiener schnitzel. Instead of the potato-cucumber salad, I asked for French fries. I also had a salad beforehand.
The salad was tasty, made up of various lettuce leaves, primarily lamb’s lettuce and endive. The Wiener schnitzel came as two smaller schnitzels, which the kitchen had prepared really fresh and flawlessly. The fries were also fresh and delicious. For three people, there were two small bowls of fries to share. Although the amount was probably sufficient, we ordered an extra bowl mid-meal. The staff promptly brought it out.
To finish, we had coffee, which came with a little pastry.
