Restaurant Waldeck is the kind of restaurant you rarely find in the city anymore. It offers traditional Swiss cuisine, solidly cooked and affordably priced.
Our Visit Experience at Restaurant Waldeck in Ostermundigen
From the outside, Waldeck looks unassuming, with a gray facade and numerous narrow windows. Inside, the ceiling is paneled with wood, and the tables and chairs are also made of wood. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained.
We were given a very friendly welcome. The menu at Restaurant Waldeck mainly features classic dishes like various steaks or Wiener schnitzel. There are also dishes that used to be offered in many restaurants but are now rarely found in the city. Examples include Rahmschnitzel (creamy schnitzel), “Bäretatze” (hack steak), or Riz Casimir (chicken in curry sauce with rice).
I chose a beef sirloin steak with pepper sauce and French fries. The beef sirloin steak was really large and nicely pink in the middle. The pepper sauce was delicious, and the fries were fresh.
The service was consistently attentive and very friendly.
Waldeck in Ostermundigen is definitely worth a visit. In its own way, it’s a traditional Swiss restaurant, which makes it feel a bit “old-fashioned.” But it serves proper Swiss cuisine with good service.
