Our Dining Experience at Lokal Bern
Even from the outside, the beautiful garden of Lokal Bern catches the eye, shady with trees and parasols and bordered by a hedge. The cobblestones, partly interspersed with stones, give it a charmingly wild character – perfect for warm days when we were lucky enough to dine outside. Inside, the restaurant is also spacious and cozy.
Hosts with Heart and Ideas
Upon entering Lokal Bern, you immediately feel the inviting atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly, likeable, and uncomplicated. The service is natural and communicative – for example, all the ice cream flavors were recited from memory with enthusiasm, which went over well and added a personal touch.
Bold Creativity on the Menu
The menu at Lokal Bern is deliberately small, but everyone finds something suitable here. Alongside a veggie menu and a meat menu, there are also special daily recommendations like a steak or tartare. The menus also include a salad or soup as a starter.
I started with a small green salad enriched with couscous – a very good and welcome change from the usual salads, accompanied by fresh bread.
For the main course, I chose the spider steak (araignée de boeuf), a cut from the upper part of the beef leg. This creative piece of meat is more for connoisseurs and was convincing in flavor. Although it was tender in parts, it also contained – typical for this cut – connective tissue, which isn’t for everyone. It was accompanied by a sweet potato salad with beans, chickpeas, and an interesting, thick dressing. The combination was bold and appealing in flavor, even if the type of meat and dressing may not suit all tastes. Personally, I enjoyed it very much.
Lokal Bern dares to offer dishes that aren’t mainstream, and that’s commendable. The wine selection is also excellent, featuring a range of special wines.
