Visit to Klösterli Weincafé in Bern
Klösterli Weincafé is located in a beautiful traditional house. Inside, wood dominates with open shelves for wine.
The service was consistently friendly. The staff made sure to advise us on operating the gas rechaud.
During our visit, we first had a beer from Altes Tramdepot, a local brewery. As a starter, I enjoyed a caramelized carrot soup – served hot by the waitress. At CHF 14.50, it was rather expensive though.
For the main course, I chose the house specialty, an entrecôte in a copper pan. First, a gas rechaud was brought to the table. Then abundant, briefly seared meat along with herb butter in a copper pan was served. There were also pan-fried potatoes and vegetables in a cast-iron pot. As recommended by the knowledgeable service staff, I first placed the meat on my plate, then grilled it piece by piece in the copper pan in the herb butter.
The food was delicious. There was also plenty of meat. However, CHF 54 for the entrecôte is quite expensive. A minor criticism is that the chef cut the meat along the grain. Typically, meat is cut against the grain – which makes the meat seem more tender.
For wine, we had a Spanish wine from a magnum bottle. The coffee afterwards was aromatic. The ginger ordered accompanied the coffee ideally. A tablemate ordered an affogato – a scoop of vanilla ice cream with espresso poured over it, served in a mini carafe.
