Ristorante Grotto Ticino Bern simply belongs to Bern. It has been on Breitenrainplatz for decades and will hopefully stay there for a long time. In Ticino, a grotto is a rustic restaurant that mainly serves regional cuisine outdoors. At Grotto Ticino you can sit outside in summer; in the cooler seasons you dine inside. They serve delicious Italian cuisine that stands out from other venues. There are also some Ticinese specialties.
Our Visit Experience at Grotto Ticino Bern
Upon entering Ticino, I immediately felt at home. The brick walls and solid wood tables simply feel cozy. The server took our orders promptly and was friendly and humorous throughout. The landlord also stopped by briefly to greet us.
I started with a green salad with a truly aromatic dressing, accompanied by crispy-fresh bread. My main course was an original Ticinese Luganighetta on a saffron risotto. The authentic Ticinese sausage was really delicious. The risotto had a creamy texture and a lovely saffron flavor.
Other delicious dishes were served at our table – for example, the Fagottini di Parma. These are small filled pasta parcels in a cream sauce with Parma ham. They were also really tasty but very filling.
With its rustic interior and authentic Ticinese food, dining at Grotto Ticino almost feels like a mini-vacation. The perfect end to this mini-vacation was an affogato, a scoop of vanilla ice cream in an espresso.
I can really recommend Ristorante Grotto Ticino Bern. Alongside dishes you can also get at other similar restaurants, Ticino truly offers specialties. For example, the Pizza Marinara without cheese or Pizza Bianca without tomato sauce.
