Atmosphere: Historic building with its own arcade

Della Casa is located in a historic house on Schauplatzgasse. With its red shutters and geraniums on the windowsills, the building looks well-maintained and inviting.

A special feature is the arcade (Laube), where simple tables and chairs invite guests to linger outside. In winter, blankets are provided to keep warm.

Lively atmosphere in a rustic interior

We reserved a table in the ground-floor dining room. The upstairs section is slightly more upscale and is called «Au Premier». As soon as you enter, you feel the lively and bustling atmosphere. The decor is very rustic and cozy: lots of wood and classic wooden tables define the look.

The Kitchen: Real game at Della Casa Bern

Della Casa is known for its down-to-earth, traditional Swiss cuisine. The menu is presented in the form of a newspaper – the «Gazzetta» – which adds to the restaurant’s charm.

Starter: Tomato soup with gin

My meal started with a tomato soup with gin. It was a solidly cooked tomato soup – nicely tomatoey with a thickened yet fluid consistency.

Main course: Venison steak

For my main course, I ordered the venison steak. The steaks were served on a game sauce, accompanied by spätzle, red cabbage with caramelized chestnuts, and a cooked half-apple with cranberries.

The meat was mostly very tender and perfectly cooked medium rare, with a mild, pleasant game flavor. The spätzle were very aromatic, and the red cabbage impressed with its slightly sour taste and good texture. The game sauce had a nice, somewhat bitter aroma from cognac, but its consistency was a bit too thin.

Dessert: Ice coffee

For dessert, I had an ice coffee. The portion was very generous, consisting of coffee, coffee and vanilla ice cream, and plenty of cream. A successful, classic finish for lovers of coupes.

Service

The service during our visit was very friendly, attentive, and proper. What stood out was that the staff came across as natural and unaffected – both when serving and clearing. Patient, charming, and attentive.
