The Crêperie le Carrousel is a piece of France in Bern. The interior, the menu, the food, the drinks, and the service are very authentic, just like a crêperie in France. So you absolutely have to try “Le Carrousel”!
Visit to Crêperie le Carrousel in Bern
The visitors to the restaurant are probably mostly from the Länggass quarter. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed.
Before the main course, we ate a salad. It contained various leafy greens and was fresh. The salad dressing was tasty but rather sparse. The kitchen could have used a bit more dressing.
Since we went to Crêperie le Carrousel in Bern at lunchtime, we were able to take advantage of the lunch offer, where a sweet crêpe costs an additional CHF 3. However, this lunch offer only allows you to choose from very simple sweet crêpes.
Atmosphere
As mentioned above, the atmosphere is very French. This is reinforced by the wood interior and the French-style decorations. The ambience is very cosy. The clientele is probably mostly from the Länggass quarter where the restaurant is located – so it’s urban.
The table service was very warm and even up for a bit of banter. They were also happy to provide information about the food and beer. They also pointed out the lunch offer to us. The only thing to note is that the service was rather leisurely, i.e. somewhat slow. But that’s the same in France.
Le Carrousel in Bern has a large selection of food and drinks. However, since the offering focuses on galettes and crêpes, the large selection does not negatively affect quality. The selection of galettes and crêpes is extensive. In terms of ingredients, there is certainly something for everyone – with cheeses such as Gruyère, Belper Knolle, goat cheese, and more. For drinks, guests can also choose from a wide range, for example syrups, cider, and beer. However, there are only two white and two red wines to choose from, which is rather limited. But then again, the French probably rarely drink wine with crêpes.
The salad was fresh, with a flavourful dressing. Quality-wise it was impeccable – though the salad could have used a bit more dressing. The galettes were well prepared, the ingredients like ham, cheese, and egg were good. Some of the galettes were baked a bit dark, and my colleague said hers wasn’t very hot.
Although there are only two red wines on offer, our wine from the Languedoc (France) was impeccable. This wine, the Saint-Chinian, was robust. Le Carrousel’s speciality is Breton beers. The Duchesse Anne is a strong beer (7.5% alcohol), brewed like a Belgian beer, with a robust flavour.
For just over CHF 30, the guest gets salad, galette, mineral water, and coffee. The prices for cider and wine are also very reasonable. Even those who eat and drink more won’t be unpleasantly surprised by the prices. That’s why the Crêperie Le Carrousel in Bern is a value-for-money giant!
