Contra Corrente is an Italian restaurant in Bern that opened in the fall of 2024. The restaurant offers an elegant atmosphere and Italian cuisine that is sure to delight.

Visit to Contra Corrente in Bern
Contra Corrente is located a little outside the city near Schosshalden Cemetery, and is easily accessible by bus No. 10. Upon entering, the interior of the restaurant appears elegant. It is simple yet stylish, with hanging (plastic) plants. The staff is friendly and welcomed us with delicious bruschetta – a gift from the house.
For the main course, I ordered ossobuco, which was perfectly braised and juicy. The gremolata was served on the meat. On the plate, there was also fresh pesto, which seemed mostly to be for visual appeal. The risotto as a side dish was al dente and prepared with enough moisture, but we would have preferred a slightly larger portion.
For dessert, we ordered a tiramisu to share, which the maître d' kindly arranged for us. The tiramisu, like the main course, was also delicious.
A round of limoncello with generously filled glasses completed the meal.

Directions to Contra Corrente in Bern
The best way to reach Contra Corrente from Bern Station is by taking bus No. 10 towards Ostermundigen, Rüti to the Schosshaldenfriedhof stop. From there, it’s about 150 meters on foot to the restaurant.
