Our Visiting Experience at Casa d'Italia Bern

Casa d'Italia Bern: Einladende lachsfarbene Fassade mit ikonischem Schild und charmantem Fahrrad.

The pleasantly located oasis in Länggasse

The Casa d'Italia Bern is located in the Länggasse district, at the intersection of Länggassstrasse and Bühlstrasse. The restaurant is a little hidden, but easily recognizable by the inconspicuous sign with the Italian Tricolore.

While one terrace faces Bühlstrasse, the larger terrace is located behind the building. There is a garden with chestnut trees and parasols, which provide ample shade - perfect for warm days. Inside, the interior is functionally simple and invites a straightforward dining experience.

Comprehensive Menu with Good Offering of Vegan Dishes and Drinks

The Casa d'Italia has a wide range of typical Italian dishes. There are comprehensive menus for antipasti, pasta, pizza, as well as meat and fish dishes. Particularly noteworthy and a real highlight is the vegan menu - this is a truly great and well-thought-out offering! From all the delicious dishes, I chose a green salad and an Ossobuco.

Authentic and Honest Italian Cuisine

The Green Salad consisted of iceberg lettuce and a slice of tomato - so it was classic and puristically presented. The aromatic Italian dressing was finely draped over the salad and had a creamy consistency. Fresh white bread was served with it.

The main course, the Ossobuco, featured a beautifully meaty piece of veal shank, with a nice marrow bone. This also contained a good amount of marrow. It was served with a pureed braising sauce and a saffron risotto. The dish was garnished with some curly parsley. The veal shank was tenderly braised and had an authentic, deep flavor, suggesting it was braised together with onions, carrots, and celery. Instead of the classic gremolata, the sauce was pureed - but it also had the typical taste. The risotto had a subtle saffron flavor. Unfortunately, it was not as fluid and flowing as would be optimal. However, the taste was authentic, and the rice was also slightly al dente. The only minor criticism: the main course was not as hot as expected.

For dessert, we treated ourselves to an Affogato, i.e., vanilla ice cream with an espresso poured over it. This had a beautifully strong espresso flavor and was the perfect ending.

Overall, the food at Casa d'Italia Bern was typically Italian, straightforwardly cooked, and very delicious. Along with the bill, the waiter offered us a Limoncello on the house - many thanks for this kind gesture!
