Our Dining Experience at Beaulieu Bern

Elegant Yet Uncomplicated: The Ambiance at Beaulieu Bern

Since our visit to Beaulieu was on a sunny and warm day, we chose a table on the shady terrace under the chestnut trees. The greenery of the trees and the pleasant coolness created a relaxing atmosphere. It's simply wonderful to sit together with friends and enjoy a good meal in such a setting.

The clientele was mixed that day, but mostly a bit older. The atmosphere is refined, but not stiff. This makes the Beaulieu certainly suitable for families with children who feel comfortable in a stylish setting. Next to us, a larger group was enjoying an apéro (drinks and snacks before a meal), since the spacious terrace is also ideal for that.

Selection and Food

A glance at the menu confirmed Beaulieu Bern's focus on Swiss classics.

You'll find cheese specialties such as fondue and Käseschnitte (open faced cheese sandwich), various Rösti variations, Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, and also seasonal specialties. A friendly server took our order. For myself, I ordered the entrecôte (sirloin steak) with herb sauce and Berner Pommes Frites (Bernese-style fries). As a starter, I chose a small salad.

The salad, consisting of various leafy greens, was served in a small bowl. The dressing, not too creamy, suited my taste. Fresh baguette was served alongside.

Subsequently, the entrecôte was served on a well-warmed plate, a sign of a meticulous kitchen. In addition to the herb sauce on the plate, the guest also receives a small pitcher of additional sauce. A vegetable bouquet rounded off the dish. The Pommes Frites were served on a separate small plate.

The entrecôte was perfectly cooked medium-rare as requested, and was served cut against the grain. This unusual cut then became a topic of conversation with the Chef de Service (head waiter). He explained that meat can be prepared tenderly in this way as well. In fact, the meat was very tender, and also harmonized wonderfully with the aromatic herb sauce. The price for the entrecôte is appropriate for the quality and ambiance.

The service was attentive and professional without being intrusive. In addition, the Chef de Service, as mentioned, took the time for a brief conversation about the preparation of the dish.

I always enjoy visiting the Beaulieu because it offers an elegant yet cozy atmosphere. Furthermore, the menu contains a good selection of traditional Swiss dishes that are also prepared with care.
