Highlights
- 🌳 Shady terrace under chestnut trees – a quiet spot in the middle of Länggasse
- 🥩 Perfectly medium-rare entrecôte with aromatic herb sauce
- 🏠 Historic restaurant in a traditional building
- 💁 Attentive service with a personal touch
Beaulieu Bern is a traditional restaurant in the Länggasse quarter. From the outside, the historic building first catches your eye. But the real highlight is next to the building: an inviting terrace in the shade of large chestnut trees. Surrounded by a wall, it offers a quiet spot that is especially inviting in summer.
Our Dining Experience at Beaulieu Bern
Elegant but Uncomplicated: The Ambience at Beaulieu Bern
Since it was sunny and warm during our visit to Beaulieu, we chose a table on the shady terrace under the chestnut trees. The green of the trees and the pleasant coolness created a relaxed atmosphere. It’s simply wonderful to sit together with friends and enjoy a good meal.
The clientele that day was mixed but predominantly older. The atmosphere is refined yet not stiff. Beaulieu is certainly also suitable for families with children.
Selection and Food
A look at the menu confirmed Beaulieu Bern’s focus on Swiss classics. It includes cheese specialities like fondue and cheese toast, various rösti variations, Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, and seasonal specialities.
The salad, consisting of various leafy greens, was served in a small bowl. The not-too-creamy dressing suited my taste. Fresh baguette was also served.
The entrecôte was then served on a well-preheated plate, a sign of careful kitchen work. Besides the herb sauce on the plate, the guest also receives a small pitcher of extra sauce. A bouquet of vegetables rounded out the dish. The fries were served in a separate small bowl.
The entrecôte was perfectly cooked medium-rare as requested and was served sliced against the grain. The unusual cut became a topic of conversation with the head of service. He explained that meat can be prepared tender this way. Indeed, the meat was very tender and also paired wonderfully with the aromatic herb sauce. The price of the entrecôte is rather high but appropriate for the quality and ambience.
The service was attentive and professional without being intrusive. The head of service also took time for a brief chat about the preparation of the dish.
I always enjoy visiting Beaulieu because it offers an elegant yet cosy atmosphere. Furthermore, the menu provides a good selection of traditional Swiss dishes that are prepared with care.
