There’s also a terrace where guests can drink beer and eat in summer. The clientele is mixed, consisting of locals as well as English-speaking guests.
Visit to Nelson Pub Bern
The weather is warm, and it’s Friday after four o’clock. That’s the time to go to Nelson for a beer. The tables on the terrace fill up quickly – the familiar faces are already there anyway. Still, there’s somehow always a seat. Now Sandeep – the pub owner – is either already there taking orders, or I go to the counter to order a beer.
A good thirst-quencher is, for example, Astra, a bitter beer from Hamburg. Along with the beer, Sandeep often brings a small bowl of peanuts, pretzels, or chips. The beer doesn’t have to be paid for immediately; settlement happens at the end. Besides draft beers, guests can also choose from bottled beers. The best thing is to just go to the counter and see what’s available. We, for example, like to drink Czech bottled beers like Staropramen or Radegast.
Besides drinking, Nelson Pub Bern also offers food – mainly burgers or wings. I only know this by hearsay – the food was praised by colleagues. I’ll have to try it sometime.
As one of the best-known pubs in Bern, Nelson is simply furnished. The pub feeling comes from the wooden tables, the nautical-style decorations inside, and the counter with the tap handles. It should be noted that the interior has aged. Nevertheless, there’s a friendly atmosphere at Nelson. After two or three visits, the owner and regulars already recognize you. This personal atmosphere is what sets Nelson apart from other well-known pubs in Bern.
It’s also cool that guests can choose their own music on the electronic jukebox – for example, five songs for CHF 2. So you always hear a colorful mix of music. Overall, the atmosphere is pleasant and personal.
